Hi-Float. How and why to use it.

What is Hi-Float?

Hi-Float is a gel used to coat the inside of a latex balloon before inflating it with helium.  It creates an extra barrier which slows down the rate at which helium leaves the balloon.  The result is a helium filled balloon which stays afloat for days after inflating.

Benefits Of Using Hi-Float

  1. Allows you to inflate and create your helium filled latex balloon decorations a day ahead of time without worrying about them losing their buoyancy for the day of the event.
  2. Your helium and even air-filled balloons will be floating or lasting for several days so clients can enjoy the balloons even after the day of the event.
  3. Can save you time and trouble from scrambling on the day of the event to fix up any issues.  You will have had time the day before to get the bulk of your work complete, and  can spend the day of the event making minor additions/adjustments to your balloons.
  4. There are many fun tricks and special effects you can create using Hi-Float.

Hi-Float Instructions & Tips

Hi-Float Instructions

  1. Ensure you have purchased both the Hi-float and the dispenser, or a kit that comes with both.
  2. Attach the plastic extension tube on the bottom of the pump if you are using the 96 oz bottle.  The smaller bottles don't need this.
  3. Screw the pump onto the bottle.
  4. A pump dispenser must be primed.  press it several times until liquid comes out.
  5. Choose the correct colour restriction clip according to the size of your balloon and snap it to the neck of the dispenser.  For instance, for 11" latex balloons, use the orange restriction clip.
  6. Slide the balloon up into the nozzle as high as it will go.  You want the Hi-float to end up on the base of the balloon, not higher up or near the neck of the balloon.
  7. Press the plunger as far as it will go.  Only do this once. Pinch the balloon neck when sliding it out so you don't get Hi-float on the neck of your balloon.
  8. Pinch the bottom of the neck of the balloon, and rub the Hi-float inside to spread it around, but don't allow it to flow up into the neck of the balloon.
  9. Inflate the balloon as you would.  Consider moving the inflator nozzle to the side instead of straight up in order to reduce Hi-float splatter when inflating.
  10. Fully inflate the balloon until it is pear shaped and floating upright. If it doesn't float upright, it may not be fully inflated, or you may have added too much Hi-float.
  11. Place the red cap onto the tip of the nozzle when not in use to keep the Hi-float from drying out.

Tips & Troubleshooting

1. Make sure you use the correct restriction clips depending on the size of your balloon.  Don't under or over fill.

2. Fully inflate the balloon until it is pear shaped.  Underinflated balloons will not float right.

3. For best results, keep Hi-float treated balloons indoors, or until you require them outside. Hi-float does not fully work until it is dry, which takes several hours.

4. In humid or rainy weather, use a  dehumidifier or heated room to help dry out the balloons.

5. If you are transporting your Hi-float treated balloons, transport them in a ventilated bag (bag with holes) so they can continue to dry.

6. If a balloon leans to one side, there is either too much Hi-float, or not enough helium.

7. Stretch balloons with air before inflating with helium to make them larger.

8. If fully inflated balloons are still not floating right, it could be that you are at a high altitude, or that the helium tank has air mixed into it.
